One of DFW’s best players on the defensive side of the ball is edge rusher, Nigel (Nigh-gul) Smith of Melissa. Smith finished 2022 with 95 tackles but even more impressively, 11 sacks. He also had 17 tackles for a loss and forced 3 fumbles, recovering 2 of them. Nigel won his district’s defensive lineman of the year 2 seasons in a row and had every D-1 school coveting him until he committed to Oklahoma a few weeks ago.
