McKinney's Kickoff Classic Was a Great Success for Players and Teachers Alike
McKinney I-S-D Stadium….one of the largest high school stadiums in the state. And from Thursday to Saturday of last week, each McKinney squad got to showcase their football team there in front of a very supportive community. It was the THSCA Kickoff Classic and all eyes were firmly planted on McKinney ISD.
Showcasing this year's incredibly hard working students who are a part of the Friday Night Lights at the stadium was only part of this weekends celebration. The district took time to connect with the young coaches that are and will hopefully continue to be a huge part of the future success of the community and its athletes. As part of the ROCK Mentoring Program, leadership from the THSCA and U.I.L. held a one hour session to speak with young coaches. The program was designed to give a leg up to young coaches hoping to move up in the profession and speakers such as the UIL Director of Athletics, Dr. Susan Elza, were on hand to give out much needed advice to some very eager coaches.
And while coaches are well known as leaders of young men and women, you can find other great leaders in high schools as well. Teachers and coaches are cut from the same cloth and during this Kickoff Classic, they were honored as well. Teachers from the schools participating were recognized with a Game Ball for going that extra yard... part of a program put on by the College Football Playoff Foundation and their partner the THSCA.
