Laykon Brassfield Throws 5 TDs as Lewisville Tops Highland Park 56-42

The Jerry Jones Classic lived up to its billing on Friday, delivering a high-scoring shootout between two of the Dallas area's most recognizable programs. Lewisville and Highland Park combined for 98 points in a game that served as a coming-out party for the Farmers' new starting quarterback.

Laykon Brassfield wasted no time making his mark. After a Highland Park turnover gave Lewisville early possession, Brassfield connected with Deuce Mathis on a 19-yard touchdown strike to put the Farmers on the board first, 7-0. He followed that up later in the first quarter by rolling right and finding Deontae Weathers for a 10-yard score, pushing the lead to 14-7.

Highland Park refused to fold. SMU-bound Buck Randall answered each Lewisville score with precision of his own — a 13-yard dart to Beckett Lawrence tied the game at 7, and a deep shot to James Flowers, who hauled it in and carried it to the one-yard line before punching it in, knotted things at 14. The Scots showed why Randall is one of the more coveted signal-callers in the Dallas area.

But the night belonged to Brassfield. The Lewisville quarterback finished with five touchdown passes and added a rushing score as the Farmers pulled away for a 56-42 victory. It was the kind of breakout performance that shifts expectations for a program entering the season with questions at quarterback.
