Keller Central Pulls Away from Byron Nelson in Big 4-6A Win | Team of the Week
A 24-point second quarter was the difference Thursday night as Keller Central pulled away from Byron Nelson 47-34 in a significant District 4-6A contest.
Byron Nelson drew first blood and held a 6-3 lead after Ben Odom connected with Cooper Waldrip on a check-down pass, with Waldrip racing down the sideline for the score. But the Chargers answered with an explosive second quarter that included a 12-yard touchdown run from Spencer Martin, pushing Keller Central's lead to 27-13 at halftime.
The Bobcats refused to fold in the second half. Sophomore running back Tre Green punched in a 6-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 27-20, keeping Byron Nelson within striking distance. Keller Central responded when Isaiah Taylor connected with Braylon Dixon on a 19-yard play-action pass to push the lead back to 14 heading into the fourth quarter.
Levi Walker sealed it with a quarterback keeper in the final period, and the Chargers walked away with a 47-34 district win. The victory earned Keller Central the Texas Oncology Team of the Week.
