Jesuit Edges Undefeated Walnut Grove 50-49 in OT Thriller
It took overtime and a walk-off two-point conversion, but Jesuit handed Walnut Grove its first loss of the season Thursday night, 50-49, in one of the more memorable games of the DFW fall slate.
The Wildcats came in undefeated, and lefty quarterback Ashton Gosselin gave them every reason to stay that way. He finished with 309 yards through the air, including a 72-yard strike to Hayden Smith in the first quarter that set the tone early. Walnut Grove led 14-7 after one.
Jesuit's JP Livingstone matched him throw for throw. A 47-yard touchdown catch by Ty Daboub — who broke two tackles after the catch — helped the Rangers keep pace, and the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 28.
The second half opened with a backbreaker. One play after Jesuit stopped Walnut Grove on fourth down at the four-yard line, Livingstone hit Joseph Konings in stride for a 96-yard touchdown to put the Rangers up 35-28. Livingstone would finish with 396 yards and five touchdowns.
Walnut Grove refused to fold. Running back Camryn King carried the ball 52 times for 267 yards, a workload that kept the Wildcats alive and eventually forced overtime tied at 42.
In overtime, both teams scored touchdowns. Jesuit then went for two to win it. Livingstone rolled right, pulled the defense with him, and fired back left to a wide-open Hunter Helm. Final score: Jesuit 50, Walnut Grove 49.
