The Panthers would trail 21-7 midway through the 3rd, but would storm back to beat the Rockets 24-21 to win their first state championship. Later that school year, in hoops, the Panthers beat Kimball in the 5A final 79-63 to complete the football/basketball sweep. In 2001, the Everman Bulldogs would win their first state title and then would go back to back in 2002 with another 3A title. That same school year, the Bulldogs basketball team would win the 3A state hoops title with a 72-44 win over Tatum. And finally, in 2017, the Allen Eagles would take down Lake Travis in the 6A division 1 title game 35-33. It would be Allen’s 5th title on the gridiron. In the same school year, the Allen basketball team won it’s first ever title in dramatic fashion. Donovan Parham’s last second layup in overtime gave the Eagles the 49-47 overtime victory over Katy Tompkins.
