It was homecoming for ESD, and their quarterback Patrick Burke is on the homecoming court.
But would he be on the winning side of this game? He scored on a 3-yard run to give the Eagles a 24-14 lead in the 3rd quarter.
Bellaire Episcopal was scoring every time they had the ball in the 2nd half ... and they took it away from ESD a couple of times. Braydon Crow got the interception, but not the touchdown - you'll see a couple of flags for a block in the bac k on the return.
They would score a few plays later on an 8-yard run by their quarterback Karson Gordon, and the Knights had an 11-point lead, 35-24 with 6 minutes to play.
But ESD scored quick, just 56 seconds later. Burke threw over the middle to Blair Brennan, and the referee told us that the rule is -- in the end zone, once you have possession and two feet down, the play is over. So that was a touchdown ....
... and this one was too. With 9 seconds left, this is Hutch Chipman, and once again - the referees determined that both feet were down with possession before the ball came loose. ESD improves to 6-0, with a thrilling 39-35 win.
