3-A Division 2 state championship pitted Gunter and Franklin in a battle of undefeateds
This game was a total shootout so let's pick it up late 2nd quarter. Gunter down 21-14 and Saul Rodriguez gets the handoff and finds daylight. Looks like he might score, but is tackle at the 1 after a 54 yard gain.
A couple penalties drop the Tigers back, but Hudson Graham would roll right and throw back left to a wide open Cole Lemons for a 5 yard touchdown. Missed extra point made it a 21-20 deficit at the half.
Franklin's ground attack was methodic and unstoppable. They gained 560 yards on the ground. 171 of them were by Bryson Washington who takes this carry 66 yards for a touchdown, giving the Lions a 28-20 lead.
But here come the Tigers. Hudson Graham looks to have handed the ball off...but no...he's still got it and throws to Ethan Sloan for a 25 yard touchdown. They get the 2 point conversion to tie it at 28.
Still 3rd, Gunter down 7, but Brayden Hinton busts it up the middle for a 4 yard touchdown. 35-35.
Franklin's Malcolm Murphy had a state title to remember. Here he runs into a slew of Tiger tacklers, but some how he breaks out of it. 15 carries for 287 yards and 4 touchdowns, plus 2 interceptions. Wow. Franklin would win this one 49-35.
