Frisco Lone Star Holds Off Melissa 35-30 in Thrilling Comeback Bid
It took all 48 minutes — and a goal-line interception — for Frisco Lone Star to put away Melissa in a 35-30 thriller that had plenty of momentum swings on both sides.
The Rangers wasted no time setting the tone. On the very first play from scrimmage, Lone Star quarterback Trey Wright went deep to Zack Forbish for a 75-yard touchdown strike, putting Frisco Lone Star ahead just seconds into the game. Wright, a USC commit, kept the pressure on in the second quarter, breaking free for a 69-yard rushing touchdown to push the lead to 28-7 — a margin that looked like it might end the drama early.
Melissa had other ideas. Cardinals quarterback Turner Wilkie, who turned in a standout performance, connected with tight end Wyatt Henry before halftime to cut the deficit to 28-14. In the third quarter, Wilkie found Bear Tabor on a gutsy catch through contact to make it a one-score game at 28-21. Lone Star extended the lead to 35-28, but Melissa kept clawing.
With under a minute remaining and the Cardinals needing a touchdown to tie, Wilkie escaped pressure and looked to make the game-tying play — but Clemson commit Bryant Robinson stepped in front of the pass for an end-zone interception, sealing the 35-30 win for Frisco Lone Star.
