Flashback to the 2002 Lincoln Tigers Dominating the High School Basketball Scene Nation Wide

This week’s flashback takes us back to the 2002 Lincoln Tigers…..arguably North Texas’ most dominant basketball team in the past 25 years. After losing, in a major upset to San Antonio Lanier, in the 2001 state semifinal, the young Tigers vowed to be back. And during the 2001-02 season, they honored that vow by not losing a single game all season. Under head coach, Leonard Bishop, the Tigers handled every opponent put in front of them and did it with flare. NBA veteran, Chris Bosh, and high flyer, Bryan Hopkins, led an aerial display that could not be slowed down. Midway through the season, they became USA today’s #1 ranked team, yet in the state of Texas, they were ranked second behind Beaumont Ozen and big man Kendrick Perkins. All that did was fuel the fire already inside the Tigers and when they met Ozen in the state final, they crushed them 71-51. Bosh scored 21 points and grabbed 11 boards in the game as Lincoln would finish the season 40-0 and the mythical national champions.
