Elijah Irvin Scores 3 TDs as Haslet Eaton Tops Arlington 20-10
Sophomore tailback Elijah Irvin had an answer every time Arlington threatened Friday night, rushing for three touchdowns to lead Haslet Eaton to a 20-10 road victory over the Colts in Arlington's home opener.
Arlington came in with momentum after a season-opening win over Byron Nelson, and the Colts drew first blood to take a 3-0 lead. But Irvin quickly flipped the script, sweeping around the left end untouched to put Eaton ahead 7-3.
The Colts responded in the second quarter when defensive lineman Tee-mi Shoyombo brought down the Eaton quarterback on third and long, and the loose ball was scooped up and returned for a touchdown by Bishop, giving Arlington a 10-7 lead. The momentum swing was short-lived. Irvin punched it in from four yards out to put Eaton back on top at 13-10, then capped the half with another score with just five seconds on the clock — a back-breaking sequence that effectively decided the game.
Irvin finished with all three of Eaton's touchdowns on the night. The Eagles secured their first win of the season at 1-1, while Arlington drops to 1-1 on the year.
