DeSoto Eagles vs. Coppell Cowboys - 2013 Basketball - Week 8

DeSoto came into their game with Coppell ranked #1 in the state in large part because of #14 Matt Jones. The Duke commit has seeming been at DeSoto forever and while he deservedly gets most of the attention the real secret to the Eagles success is a salty defense. Here the active hands of TaKedrick Brown forces the turnover, Matt Jones gets the ball ahead to Brown for an easy layup. Good looks were hard to come by but Coppell gets an easy one here, on a well-designed out of bounds play, Simi Socks drops in 2 of his 10 points on the night. Matt Jones would get a pick here from Terry Maston, his shot is off the mark but Maston pounds the glass and gets the putback to give the Eagles a commanding lead at half-time. Coppell would try to keep things close with Landon Goesling with the sweet dish to Socks who gets free underneath. But DeSoto had an answer for everything, this time the good ball movement leads to a wide open look from the corner and this one was never really in doubt, DeSoto cruises to an easy 69-41 win, Mr. Jones and company move onto Round 3 and play Hebron Tuesday night.
