Coppell vs Lake Highlands | Top-10 Cowboys Hold Off Resilient Wildcats
Ranked inside the Texas top ten, Coppell came into this matchup with Lake Highlands carrying the kind of momentum that makes opposing student sections nervous — and the Cowboys wasted no time proving why.
Coppell struck first when quarterback Carter Zingleman connected with Jackson Echols for the opening touchdown, putting the Cowboys out front early. The junior signal-caller wasn't done there — Zingleman later tucked the ball and followed his blockers into the end zone on a rushing score, pushing the Coppell lead to 16-7 and showcasing the dual-threat ability that has made him one of the more dangerous quarterbacks in the area.
Lake Highlands, though, was not willing to let the game get away. Running back Franklin Evons Jr. got the Wildcats on the board with a touchdown run that sent the student section into a frenzy, cutting the deficit to three. And when Coppell extended its lead, Lake Highlands responded again — quarterback John Cothern finding Conrad Ince for a receiving touchdown to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.
The back-and-forth nature of the contest reflected the competitive landscape of Dallas-area football, where even top-ranked programs can expect a fight on any given Friday night. Coppell's ability to answer each Lake Highlands surge ultimately proved to be the deciding factor.
