Around The Metroplex: The Best Teams in 6A
We’ll start in 11-6A where both state champions call home. DeSoto is looking for a 3 peat as they demoralized Summer Creek in last year’s state final, 74-14. The score alone has but fear in the hearts of the entire state. The Eagles have a ridiculous amount of top end talent returning including Tiger Riden at running back and receivers Daylon Singleton and Boobie Feaster. Defense is loaded too, led by Keylan Abrams at defensive end. Desoto knows they have a target on their back and head Coach Claude Mathis invites it. In Division 1, it’s Duncanville looking for 3 titles in a row. The Panthers can match Desoto’s offensive firepower with 5 star quarterback, Keelon Russell, and the nation’s best receiver, Dakorien Moore. And Moore is definitely not alone with that wide receiving corps as junior Zach Turner and transfer sophomore, Trenton Yancey, will give Russell all kinds of targets to throw to. However, 11-6A just got tougher during realignment. Not only has Cedar Hill gotten better behind Nick Ward and Waxahachie remains a serious playoff contender, but Lancaster moves up from 5A and WEBO Nation is stacked with athletes. If the state champion doesn’t come out of 11-6A, there are certainly plenty of other contenders in North Texas. North Crowley was a state semifinalist a year ago and their defense led by Jonathan Cunningham at linebacker and defensive back Draden Fullbright are hard to score on. Add to it North Texas commit Chris Jimmerson at quarterback and Cornelius Warren in the backfield and we could see the Panthers going 5 or 6 rounds deep again. Southlake Carroll was also a state semfinalist. They will be breakin in a new quarterback, but need no help in the backfield. The two headed monster of Riley Wormley and Davis Penn will be a dangerous combination to stop. But we can’t forget, it was Byron Nelson who dethroned the Dragons as district champs. 4-6A has added Trinity, LD Bell and Justin Northwest to make things tougher for the Bobcats, but Head Coach Travis Pride feels they have established themselves as an elite program. Coppell is on everyone’s radar after going undefeated in the regular season ago. Edward Griffin leads a solid offense and Weston Polk is a playmaker on defense. They will get strong opposition from Denton Guyer who takes in Oklahoma bound, Kevin Sperry, as their new transfer quarterback. 10-6A should be a battle week in and week out as Rockwall, Forney and Longview are all top 20 caliber teams. Allen and Prosper will both stand out in 6-6A and their week 9 matchup very well could be for the district crown. Other teams to look out for are Arlington Martin, Arlington Bowie, Sachse and Jesuit as 6A in North Texas will be fun to watch in 2024. 🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀 Subscribe to DFW Inside High School Sports to stay up to date on everything high school sports related in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex! https://www.youtube.com/@DFWInsideHighSchoolSports https://twitter.com/ihss_dfw https://www.tiktok.com/@ihssdfw https://www.instagram.com/ihssdfw/ https://www.facebook.com/DFWInsideHighSchoolSports https://www.threads.net/@ihssdfw Visit our website: http://dfw.insidehighschoolsports.tv/ #ihss #txhsfb
