Argyle Pulls Away from Lovejoy in 3-5A D2 Showdown | 45-28

October 13, 2026
Argyle rallied with 38 unanswered points to defeat Lovejoy 45-28 in a pivotal District 3-5A Division II contest.

Lovejoy drew first blood, but Argyle answered with a vengeance. What started as a promising opening drive for the Leopards quickly turned into a dominant performance by the Eagles in a District 3-5A Division II clash with first-place implications on the line.

Lovejoy's Noah Slaughter connected with Brody Hesson on a quick pass in the flats, and Hesson did the rest — spinning past a defender and racing down the sideline to put the Leopards up 7-0. It was a sharp start, but it would be the last lead Lovejoy would hold all night.

Argyle responded with 38 unanswered points. Hayes Hackney was the catalyst, finding Ake O'Neal on a 32-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter after O'Neal made a defender miss in the open field. Hackney added another scoring connection with O'Neal later in the half — this one a 22-yarder thrown on the run — sending the Eagles into halftime with a 31-7 advantage.

Argyle kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter, turning to the ground game. Logan Rexroat punched in a 6-yard touchdown run and finished the night with 157 rushing yards, providing the physical complement to Hackney's aerial attack. The Eagles won 45-28, a result that carries significant weight in the 3-5A Division II standings.
