Argyle Football Opens New Stadium With Transfer QB Hayes Hackney in 2025
A brand new stadium, a transfer quarterback with elite credentials, and a returning corps of playmakers — Argyle football is set up for another deep run in 3-5A Division 2.
Head coach Todd Rodgers brings back one of the more talented rosters in the classification, headlined by wide receiver Julian Caldwell, who is committed to Texas Tech. But the biggest storyline heading into the season is who will be under center. Hayes Hackney, who spent the last two seasons at Prosper Walnut Grove, transferred to Argyle carrying a résumé that's hard to ignore — 77 touchdown passes and more than 7,000 passing yards over two years as a starter.
Hackney has two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Eagles and says the transition should be smooth. Walnut Grove's offensive system closely mirrors what Argyle runs, which means the learning curve figures to be minimal from day one.
The Eagles will also be playing in a new facility this fall, giving the program a fresh backdrop as it looks to remain one of the premier programs in its district and classification.
