North Mesquite Ends Odessa Permian Dynasty With a Shutout

This week’s 25th Anniversary Flashback takes us back to 1996 where #1 ranked North Mesquite took on #2 Odessa Permian at Mesquite Memorial stadium. An overflow crowd of over 21,000 fans were on hand to see the stallions completely shutdown “mojo” by a final score of 27-0. The North Mesquite defense held the Panthers to 86 yards of total offense….the lowest in Permian history. The stallion’s win put an end to the Permian dynasty and helped shift the balance of power in high school football from West Texas to North Texas.
