This week’s 25th Anniversary Flashback takes us to 2012. Midway through that season after the Allen Eagles lost a hard-fought game to Coppell in overtime, head coach Tom Westerberg inserted sophomore Kyler Murray into the starting lineup as his quarterback. The future Heisman winner went 42-0 as a starter and led the eagles to 3 straight state championships.
The Murray magic was impossible to stop as he threw for over 10,000 yards and 117 touchdowns during his 3 years at Allen. He was just as deadly with his feet, amassing 41 hundred yards and 69 touchdowns in his legendary career. In 2014, Murray won the Gatorade football player of the year and left a lasting mark on Texas high school football as arguably the greatest to ever play the game.
